I hope he can make road trips with us too.

Robo - I agree. I know it wasn't what was best for him or what his family wanted, but if he continues to get healthier he can really help us out the rest of the season. (Doesn't have a clue what he's supposed to do when we run our offense though...)Hiphopopotamushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12156277572814345163noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487667923513160891.post-52191500912895125122009-01-14T01:46:00.000-06:002009-01-14T01:46:00.000-06:00I am thinking burning the red shirt will be ok bas...I am thinking burning the red shirt will be ok based on what we saw tonight. the mid-range jumper was great.Robo Boogiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04384289102005884541noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487667923513160891.post-3271250568737765942009-01-13T21:52:00.000-06:002009-01-13T21:52:00.000-06:00Great point though, predicting how important Tysha...Great point though, predicting how important Tyshawn would be.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487667923513160891.post-52036721742638245802009-01-13T21:36:00.000-06:002009-01-13T21:36:00.000-06:00Tyshawn Taylor (in this form) plus Sherron Collins...Tyshawn Taylor (in this form) plus Sherron Collins would make the zone completely worthless. We'll see if this is the real Tyshawn, but if it is I doubt we see much zone.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487667923513160891.post-82410762031774210452009-01-13T17:30:00.000-06:002009-01-13T17:30:00.000-06:00I agree that it's definitely a concern going forwa...I agree that it's definitely a concern going forward. However, I've never noticed K-State run a zone, so it never really ocurred to me - not saying they won't though...Hiphopopotamushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12156277572814345163noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487667923513160891.post-6987399850141699142009-01-13T15:56:00.000-06:002009-01-13T15:56:00.000-06:00Wow, that was long....*that's what she saidWow, that was long....

*that's what she saidGingerBallshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15282553347220770288noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487667923513160891.post-5759836354850868712009-01-13T15:54:00.000-06:002009-01-13T15:54:00.000-06:00Good write up...we better not shit the bed tonight...Good write up...we better not shit the bed tonight. As you mentioned, I also believe that one of the big keys tonight is Tyshawn returning to middle non-con form and controlling the game by slicing through the defense, getting out in transition and keeping everyone on involved. We he is playing his game, we shoot a lot better from outside due to his driving and ability to kick out.

Something you didn't mention that really concerns me about this team is how we react to zone. We do a pretty decent job against trapping, attack style half-court zone because we do an excellent job of finding the open man in space.

Conversely, against a non-trapping 1/4-court zone we suffer and seem content in just swinging the ball around the perimeter and occasionally hit the high-post with the defense out of position for easy paint points. If the high-post is denied, we really lack in finding ways of freeing people up and do a pitiful job of skip passing with a purpose. I just don't get why we don't attack the zone from the wings to draw defenders, causing flux in the defense, allowing openings for the next player passed to. Beating the 2-3 is pretty simple really, every movement with the ball you want at least two defenders accounting for the man with the ball causing a 4-3 personnel advantage for the offense.

On that same note, when we have Brady and Tyrel in at the same time against a 2-3 zone, we are already at a disadvantage given their lack of ability off the dribble. I like having both in for their shooting ability but we lose some threat of attacking the zone off the dribble and make it much easier for the zone to guard our perimeter, since both just spot up outside the arc without the threat of beating his man to the lane. This really puts a lot of pressure on the point(be it Sherron or Tyshawn) to create from the hardest spot to attack against the 2-3. If we are going to have them both in(Brady/Tyrel) then I would much rather one of them run the top spot in the zone offense allowing Sherron/Tyshawn to attack from the wing.

Obviously I have thought a lot about this, because I think teams are seeing our weaknesses against the 2-3 and many teams will run it to try and factor out Cole anyway. I think we are going to see a lot of 2-3 in Big 12 play, especially against teams of lesser talent and height, so I hope we can get to a point where our offense can beat it much more consistently.GingerBallshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15282553347220770288noreply@blogger.com
